Ok so I have had a 48 inch all cast Hi Lift Jack for about 10 years or so now and just ordered a 60 inch one.
It has lived in the back of several of my trucks and yes you will need to hose it down with some sort of spray on lube or oil a couple of times a year to keep the rust at bay.
I have used it for 4x4 stuff but find is just as useful around the farm. I have leveled small out buildings of my neighbors with it as well as jacked up and leveled my 40 foot shipping container I use for storage.
You will probably want to be smart enough to realize that heavy and moving objects always have the right of way before using this or any equipment that moves heavy objects around. An intelligent person would probably also spend a couple of minutes learning how the Hi Lift works so you don't have to reinvent the wheel yourself. (Or get smacked with the handle!)
If you overload one enough to break it (Your an idiot or one of my 4x4 buddies/maybe both!)you will find the repair parts readily available and the repair within the reach of most.
If there are better jacks available for this sort of application they are not in this price range nor readily evident.
Between this and the More Power Puller I can get myself out of any jamb I have managed to get into as of yet, but I keep trying!

What can I saw, I off road and while I do have a winch sometimes you need a little extra lift too. Sure I could have gotten a larger bottle jack but these have so many uses it was a no brainer.

Love hi-lift products. Its a must have for any 4x4 enthusiast. Bought for my wife's Jeep and she knows exactly how to use it. Saved me $30 by ordering from here and shipped for free!

This is my second Hi-lift that Amazon sent me. The first one showed up severely damaged with nicks and scratches all over the red finish. They sent me a replacement which showed up in the nearly same condition. I would highly recommend buying one from your local off road shop unless you care about getting a lift with scratches all over the finish!
The Hi-lift is a great tool and should be part of any four wheelers recovery set. The utility of the tool is great because it is super versatile. The red finish scratches very easily and is prone to rust once the finish is scratched!

This jack is great. I use it with my Jeep and it has come in handy several times. Not only is it a jack, but it can also be used as a come-along. It is quite heavy, but that is a good trait for me considering what it is used for. If you are looking at carrying it in a Jeep Wrangler TJ, I used a 3" muffler clamp and a 2 1/2" muffler clamp across the back roll bars to secure it. The 2 1/2" clamp fits perfectly in the holes at the base of the jack.
